  Abstract:

I will present the results of two studies which demonstrate how physiology can predict performance and inform our knowledge of judgment and decision making. The first project examines how different types of stress can influence conscious reasoning processes. Participants engaged in a stressful task before completing an anchoring and adjustment questionnaire. Participants whose physiology indicated a challenge motivational state adjusted more than those whose physiology indicated a threat state. In the second, I discuss links between Testosterone and performance in competitive contexts. We sampled Testosterone before and after each game of a collegiate Ultimate Frisbee team’s competitive season. I discuss links between Testosterone levels, performance, risk taking and self-reported emotion.
